Future Plans

From its very beginnings, Union Station has stood as a shining architectural marvel and powerful symbol of Chicago's pride and economic might. Now the stage is set for its dramatic evolution into a thriving center of contemporary life and business. The new Union Station will ascend to soaring heights with an 18-story tower and glass enclosed atrium, representing a seamless realization of architect Daniel Burnham's original vision. While remaining sympathetic to Burnham's original design, the new Union Station will offer the 21st century amenities required by today's tenants.

The redevelopment of Union Station will add 800,000 square feet of space to the historical landmark for a total of 1.5 million square feet, including upscale retail with street level facades and access to the Great Hall, 21st century office space, a sophisticated business hotel, and luxury residential condominiums.

The new Union Station will be a vibrant, mix-used development where opportunities for business, retail, hotel and residential success abound.

Retail
Union Station will offer 80,000 square feet of retail space made up of high-end restaurants, shops, and specialty retailers with direct access from Clinton and Canal.

Office
610,000 rentable square feet of office space, with separate entries on Adams and Jackson through the existing historic lobbies. Floor to ceiling windows and an interior light court with continuous floor-to-ceiling glass will provide an abundance of natural light.

Hotel
The 320-room, sophisticated business-class hotel will feature a 40,000 square foot state-of-the-art conference facility.

Residential
The top floors of the new Union Station will be dedicated to residential condos, with a separate entrance along Clinton Street.
